- What is the
Royal Arch?
A Chapter of Royal Arch Masons represents some of the oldest teachings
in Freemasonry. In West Virginia a Chapter confers six degrees: Mark
Master, Past Master, Select Master, Royal Master, Most Excellent Master
and Royal Arch Mason. West Virginia follows the Virginia system and
confers the Cryptic Degrees in the chapter. Some but not all Grand
Councils of Cryptic Masons recognize our system.
- Who is
eligible to join?
Any Master Mason from a recognized lodge, who resides in the state of
West Virginia is eligible to petition any chapter in West Virginia.
There are no jurisdictional lines.
- What can I
expect?
Completion. As a Master Mason we are instructed in certain allegories
or legends, that to many seem unfinished. If you as a Master Mason
wonder about the “rest of the story”, the Royal Arch
will tell you that story and more. When modern Freemasonry was forming
in the British Isles, the Royal Arch degree was an integral part of the
Master Mason degree. It is thought that they separated due to the
length and complexity of both.
- Must I be a
Christian to join?
Many Master Masons are misinformed. The Royal Arch requires only a
belief in a Supreme Deity. There are many non Christian Royal Arch
Masons in the world. Should you choose to pursue the second half of the
York Rite, you should know that the three Orders conferred are open
only to professed Christians.
- Is joining
expensive?
Not at all.
You will find that joining a local chapter will most likely cost less
than joining the Blue Lodge.
