July 2010

Friends and Companions:

July is upon us as are the high temperatures and I can still enjoy sitting under the gazebo on my back porch.  We get a breeze through there and it’s not bad.  Reflecting upon the last month, I was able to make several visitations and talk to the Companions.  Following Grand Commandery in May, I visited Copestone Chapter No. 12 in Grafton on June 7th and then on June 14th at Orient Chapter No. 9 in Fairmont where I was honored to install the officers.  I had a good time at each of these Convocations with fellowship and refreshments before hitting the road to home.

On June 16th I met, at the Days Hotel in Flatwoods, with George Jackson, RE Grand King, Marvin Hill, E Grand Lecturer and ME Lonnie Carpenter, PGHP and Chairman of the Jurisprudence Committee to discuss possible changes that might be considered for next year.  I was also able to make some of the final arrangements for our Grand Convocation in October.

On June 17th, I was received by the International Order of Rainbow Girls at their Annual Meeting in Charleston.  Following this, I traveled to Montgomery Chapter No. 47 where a 50-year Service Award was presented to Donald K. Chaffin.  It was a memorable evening.  On June 19th, the Grand Officers met in Clarksburg to discuss the workings of the Grand Chapter.  After a luncheon, the degree team for the Super Excellent Master Degree met and went though the ritual and floor work in preparation for it’s conferral in October.

We will confer the Super Excellent Master Degree at our Annual Convocation on October 9th, 2010 at the Days Hotel in Flatwoods, WV.  The Grand Secretary will be mailing application forms to the Chapter Secretaries and if you have not had this Degree, I urge you to fill out one of these forms and send it to our Grand Secretary.  The fee will be $60.00, which will cover the cost of the Degree and a luncheon, which will be held on Saturday afternoon following our Grand Convocation.  The class will be named the Jeffery O. Schrader Memorial Class in honor of Jeff Schrader, Right Excellent Grand Scribe who finished his earthly labors in March of this year.  Jeff would have been the Degree Master for this Degree if he were still with us.  The application forms are also on this Web Site under the heading of FORMS.  We would like to have a good class since this Degree has not been conferred since our Grand Convocation in Huntington in 1997.

On June 26th, I attended a Festival at Jerusalem Chapter No. 3 in Parkersburg and all Degrees were conferred on a class of 8 candidates.  It was an enjoyable time.

In July I plan to visit Admiral Chapter No. 50 on Tuesday evening, July 13th.  On Jul 14th I will travel to Berkeley Springs to visit Warm Springs Chapter No. 53 and on the 16th will travel back to Princeton for a visit there.  On July 31st I will be a guest of the Order of DeMolay in Buckhannon, WV.

August brings on visits to Morgantown Chapter No. 30, O’Dell S. Long Chapter No. 25 at Pennsboro and Elkins Chapter No. 35.  I need to make arrangements with Morgantown and Elkins so this might be a surprise to them.  On September 21st I will be at Ronceverte Chapter No. 21 in Lewisburg for a 6:00 PM dinner.

I would urge all Companions to try to visit neighboring Chapters on their regular meeting nights.  We need to promote Royal Arch Masonry in WV and visitations will help.  Remember that if you have 9 visitations, you are eligible for the Triple Tau Traveling Award.  Also remember to keep those Companions who are having health problems in your prayers.  God will answer prayers.  I’ve seen it.
